The Ongoing Flow

Being young and having recently graduated from college, I find my mind racing a lot more than usual, and about a lot of different things. I have a lot of ambitions, and I want to start innovating and making my own dent in the "flow" of the world.

I just finished the Steve Jobs book earlier this evening, and it's inspired me and made me think even more. Some of his last thoughts:

"We try to use the talents we have to express our deep feelings, to show our appreciation of all the contributions that came before us, and to add something to that flow. That's what has driven me."

This quote resonates with me a lot, and when you think about it, it applies to everybody. Everything that is part of our day to day life has come from somebody else, and a lot is taken for granted. Some people are ignorant of the ongoing flow between innovation and consumption, and have no ambition to add their own contribution.

However, on the other hand, there are also people who appreciate everything that has come before and, as Steve Jobs said, have a desire to innovate and bring their own talents and personalities into the flow.

At the end of the day, both kinds of people make the world go round; the consumers and innovators. Personally, I find myself in the latter and driven to add to the ongoing flow. How about you?
